When Does Codex Reset?

There is no single reset time that answers every Codex user. Your personal usage windows, a public broad reset, a targeted reset and a saved banked reset are different events.

Check your account for your personal reset time

Codex usage can be limited by a five-hour window, a weekly window, or both, depending on the plan. OpenAI says the five-hour window begins when you send your first Work or Codex message after the previous window ends. The weekly limit covers a separate weekly usage period. If both apply, allowance must remain in both.

Your account’s current allowance and reset times appear in Settings → Usage. Codex Next Reset cannot see or predict that private account timer.

Five-hour and weekly quota refreshes

A personal quota refresh is the normal renewal of an allowance shown for your account. You can exhaust the five-hour allowance while weekly usage remains, or reach the weekly limit first. Task complexity, model, reasoning level, tools and plan can all affect how quickly the allowance is consumed.

The authoritative details can change, so check OpenAI’s current Codex usage guidance and your own Usage screen.

Broad automatic and targeted resets

An automatic or global reset is applied directly to the eligible usage limits described in its announcement. No saved reset appears for you to redeem. A broad reset explicitly covers a product-wide population such as all relevant users or plans; this site’s forecast and cadence model track only human-reviewed broad events.

A targeted reset covers a named subset, model, plan, region or account cohort. It may be useful news for those users, but it is labeled separately and excluded from broad-reset modeling. View the verified Codex reset history for source, scope, precision and inclusion status.

Banked resets and purchased instant resets

A banked reset is saved to an eligible account until the user applies it or it expires. OpenAI says a full banked reset can refresh the five-hour and weekly windows and change the weekly reset date. It is not evidence that every Codex user received a broad reset.

A purchased instant reset is different again: where available, it applies immediately after checkout and cannot be saved for later. Eligibility and terms can vary. See OpenAI’s banked reset guide and current account options for authoritative details.

What Codex Next Reset predicts

The homepage answers a narrower public question: how likely is a new broad automatic reset announcement within the next 24 or 48 hours? It does not predict your normal personal refresh, a purchase, or whether a targeted benefit reaches your account.

Probabilities are kept separate from confidence and from verified announcements. Read how the Codex reset forecast works, return to the current Codex reset outlook, or browse the Codex reset FAQ.
